Where to start if you are choosing
Start with the opening, not the type of screen. A window and a balcony door close with different systems, and half the unsuccessful orders happen because somebody chose a mechanism they liked rather than the one that fits their opening.
The second thing to settle is how often you will open it. An opening people walk through every day and a window opened once a week need different hardware and different budgets.
The third is the fabric. The aperture decides what gets through: standard mesh stops a mosquito, a sand fly needs finer, and sand is its own material.
If the screen is already up and something has failed
Most failures are not failures but consumables: rollers clogged with sand, a stretched cord, a catch that no longer holds. All of it is replaceable and none of it is expensive.
Before ordering a new screen, check the frame: lay it on a flat floor and see whether it sits on all four corners. If it does, the fault is in the fabric or the hardware and there is no reason to replace the whole thing.
Sand is its own subject. In Dubai a clogged mesh is commoner than a torn one, and sometimes washing it properly is all it needs.
