Does Dubai summer heat damage mosquito screens?
Heat alone does little to a well made mosquito screen: the aluminium profile is powder coated and takes the sun. What summer wears out is the mesh on the sunny side, cheap plastic parts, and moving parts clogged with dust. Those parts can be replaced, with rescreening from AED 200 and a new handle for AED 50.

What heat does to a mosquito screen
Sun and heat work on the parts that are not metal. Aluminium keeps its shape, but plastic corners, clips and handle pads dry out on a window that bakes all afternoon.
The mesh fades and stiffens on the sunny side long before it does on a shaded window of the same home.
Dust is the other summer problem. Fine sand settles in tracks and folds, and a screen that ran smoothly in spring starts to stick.

A summer routine for mosquito screens
Fold it away in a shamal
A pleated screen drawn across an open door catches the wind. Fold it into the cassette until the wind drops.
Clear the bottom track
Vacuum the sand out, then wipe with a dry cloth. A clean track is most of a smooth run.
Clean in the evening
Wash the mesh once the frame has cooled, with plain water and a soft brush. No solvents.
Check the sunny side first
Press the mesh gently on west and south windows. Stiff or crackling mesh is due for rescreening.
Is summer getting to your screen?
Does the mesh crackle or feel stiff when you press it?
The coating has aged. Rescreening from AED 200 puts new mesh in the same frame.
The mesh is fine. Keep it clean.
Does the pleated screen stick or run unevenly?
Sand in the track often causes it. Clean it, and call us if it still sticks.

Has the frame colour faded or turned chalky?
The frame can be repainted in your RAL colour for AED 250 per running metre.

West windows over water
Sun and salt air together age mesh faster than on a shaded wall. Expect to rescreen these first.
Budget pleated screens
Cheap systems rely on plastic parts that suffer in the sun. Our PVL screens use an aluminium profile and Italian components.
A screen left open in a sandstorm
Wind and sand together can pull the mesh out of line. Fold it away before the storm, not after.

Should I take the screens down for the summer?+
No. Screens are made to stay in place all year. Keep them clean and fold pleated screens away in strong wind.
Do pleated screens cope with the heat?+
Yes. The profile is powder coated aluminium with Italian components. Keep the track free of sand and the screen keeps running.
Can a mosquito screen cut the sun in the room?+
Standard mesh is for insects. Anti-glare mesh at AED 650 per m² softens the light, and a blackout screen at AED 1,050 per m² darkens the room.
How do I know my mesh needs replacing?+
Press it gently. If it crackles, feels stiff or has faded to a chalky grey, rescreening from AED 200 fixes it.
