A blackout mosquito screen is a dense blackout mesh in an aluminium frame, made to the size of a bedroom window. It comes in grey, brown, beige or coffee and costs AED 1,050 per m². It is for people who sleep while the Dubai sun is up: night shifts, babies at noon, bedrooms facing west.

Blackout mesh is woven for shade, not for the breeze. Insects stay out, but far less air passes than through standard mesh, so we fit it only where someone sleeps by day.

Dubai sun, sleep and the facade
A west bedroom in Dubai takes the hardest sun of the day. Blackout stops direct sun through that window, so the room also takes less afternoon heat and the AC has an easier time.
In Marina and JLT towers the bedroom glass often runs floor to ceiling, and curtains leave bright edges. A screen made to the opening covers it frame to frame, and communities often have rules on its colour.
