Dust after a shamal: mosquito screen cleaning and mesh choice
After a shamal, vacuum the mesh with a soft brush, clear sand from the bottom track, then wipe or rinse with plain water. Standard mesh stops mosquitoes but not fine dust, which drifts through the cells. On the side that takes the wind, denser anti-dust mesh (AED 800 per m²) keeps out more, but lets less air in.

Cleaning mosquito screens after a shamal
Wait for the wind to drop
Clean once the air is still. Otherwise the next gust coats the mesh again.
Vacuum it dry first
Soft brush nozzle, low power, top to bottom. Wet dust turns to mud in the mesh.
Clear the bottom track
Vacuum the sand out of the track of a pleated or sliding screen, then wipe it with a dry cloth.
Rinse only if needed
A frame screen lifts out and goes under the shower. Wipe a pleated screen in place with a damp sponge.
Let it dry before folding
Fold a pleated screen into its cassette only when the mesh is dry.
Why dust gets through the mesh
A mosquito screen is sized for insects. Our pleated mesh has a 0.8 × 0.8 mm cell: tight for a mosquito, wide open for the fine dust a shamal carries.
So dust on the sill after a storm does not mean the screen is broken. The mesh catches the coarser grains, and the finest powder drifts through.

Can I use a pressure washer on the mesh?+
No. Strong water jets and solvents damage the mesh. Use a soft brush, a vacuum and plain water.
