High up, the wind runs along the facade in gusts and loads the whole assembly, not the mesh alone. What holds it is a chain of four links: the mesh, the frame, the fixing of the frame into the opening, and the opening itself. A chain gives way at its weakest link. Below we go through them and show what you can check yourself in a minute.

What actually holds the screen
The mesh holds almost nothing. It takes the wind and passes the load on: to the frame, from the frame to the fixings, from the fixings into the reveal of the opening. So high up the question is not whether the fabric is strong. The question is which part of the assembly is weaker than the rest.
In a tower the load is variable as well. Wind runs along the facade in gusts, speeds up in the corridors between towers, as it does in JLT, and turns in the evening with the breeze off the water. It is not one big push but thousands of small ones, and they work the weakest joint loose.
That joint is usually not the one people expect.

Four links and how to check each one
Work through the chain from what you can see to what you cannot. The mesh and the frame are in plain view; the fixing hides in the reveal, and it is usually the first to give, because a fastener works in withdrawal under repeated load rather than in shear.
Each check takes under a minute and needs no tools. Do it with the screen closed, standing inside the apartment, not leaning over the parapet.
If a link shows a sign from the last column, do not tighten anything yourself. In soft plaster one extra turn widens the hole, and whatever grip was left is gone.
Two natural moments to run it: after the dusty wind season, when sand collects in the groove, and before you start leaving the door open in the evenings. Slack caught early is the cheaper repair, because the fixing point gets moved instead of the whole frame replaced.

No drilling into the facade: what is actually possible
Building management protects the facade, not your balcony. Drilling the outer panel, changing its colour or pushing a structure past the parapet is not allowed in most towers. A framed screen needs none of that: it sits inside, in the reveal of the balcony door opening, which belongs to the apartment. On some balcony portals the frame is held by clamp fixings that grip the existing profile. They do not suit every portal, and that call belongs to the survey.
With no fasteners at all there is a magnetic screen on adhesive tape. The limit is worth stating plainly: the tape carries the weight of the fabric, not the wind. On an exposed upper floor a corner lifts and the fabric slaps against the reveal. It is an answer for a rented studio, not for a balcony open to the wind.
Ask the concierge in advance about a pass for the crew, the goods lift booking and the permitted working hours.
Children and pets: where the screen's job ends
A mosquito screen is an insect barrier, not a guard rail. The mesh and the frame are calculated for air pressure, not for the weight of a person, and the balcony door opening was designed for a sash, not for a body against it. No frame turns into fall protection because someone called it reinforced.
On a tower balcony other things work: an opening limiter on the door itself and a child lock, 35 AED in the calculator. The sash stops opening to a child's hand, and the screen stays a screen.
With a cat the answer is different. Pet-Proof mesh, from 300 AED, 60% light transmission, is built so the animal cannot push it outwards. It still is not a rail: what holds the cat is a closed sash.
No frame becomes fall protection just because somebody called it reinforced.
What to ask the fitter before you order
Four questions, one per link. Which mesh, and what holds it in the groove. Which frame profile, and what happens to its geometry across a wide opening. What fixes the frame to the reveal, and what you do if the reveal crumbles. And what the warranty covers; ours is two years.
The survey is free and answers half of this: the surveyor feels the reveal with his hand instead of judging by a photo. Area is counted at 320 AED per square metre, and the final figure comes after the survey. Dates as well: we do not name them by guesswork.
