Pet-Proof Mosquito Screens in Dubai
Pet-proof screens use a reinforced mesh that claws cannot open and body weight cannot push through. In a Dubai tower they do a second job as well: a cat that leans on an ordinary screen on the twentieth floor goes through it. This mesh does not give.
01IT IS A MESH, NOT A SEPARATE MECHANISM
A reinforced strand in a protective coating goes into the usual frame: a claw slides over the coating instead of tearing the strand.
02TAKEN WHERE THE ANIMAL TOUCHES THE SCREEN DAILY
A cat walks the sill and sharpens its claws on any vertical obstacle. A large dog leans its whole weight on a door panel.
03THE HONEST PRICE IS LIGHT
Light transmission is 60%, the densest of our six meshes: the view through the glass goes duller. It is not the mesh to buy for a view.
04WHAT TO SETTLE BEFORE ORDERING
- Exactly where the animal approaches the opening
- On a door the reinforced mesh matters more than on a window
- It goes into the existing frame with no change of system
- For a window with a view, take UltraView instead
Who it suits
Suits you if
Any home with a cat, and most homes with a dog that goes near the door. The obvious case is a balcony door in a tower, where an ordinary screen is a false sense of safety rather than a barrier. The second case is a ground-floor villa where the dog pushes the screen door open with its nose several times a day, and the standard mesh loses a corner within a month. A pet flap can be fitted so the animal comes and goes without opening the whole door.
Not for you if
Do not buy it for a window nobody goes near. The reinforced mesh is thicker, so it lets through slightly less light and reads more clearly in the opening, and you gain nothing if there is no animal in the household. It is also not a security screen: it stops claws and weight, not a blade. If the concern is someone getting in rather than the cat getting out, that is stainless steel and a different construction.
How it works
Two things differ from a standard screen: the mesh and how it is held.
The mesh is woven from a thicker, tougher fibre. You can feel the difference immediately: it is stiffer under a thumb and it springs back rather than deforming. That is what stops a claw from starting a hole, because on ordinary mesh the damage always begins with one snagged thread.
The fixing matters just as much. On a standard screen the mesh sits in a groove held by a rubber cord, and a determined animal pulls the corner out. Here the perimeter is clamped, so pulling at an edge achieves nothing.
The frame is stiffened too, because the load is no longer only the wind. A cat leaning its full weight against a panel puts a real force on the corners.
About the pet flap: it is worth deciding before manufacture, not after. Cutting one into a finished screen weakens exactly the area that carries the load.
One honest note for high floors. No screen is a safety barrier certified for a fall. Pet-proof mesh will hold an animal's weight where standard mesh will not, and that is a genuine difference, but if you have a cat that climbs, the balcony still needs thinking about as a whole.

What it costs
The system is priced like any other screen, from area at 320 AED per square metre plus 5% VAT, with the reinforced mesh costing more than standard. That difference is smaller than most people expect, and it is far smaller than replacing a torn screen twice. Windows start at 200 AED and doors at 250 in our price list. The survey is free and the quote comes from it.
This is not a separate mechanism but a reinforced mesh in the usual frame: a claw slides over the coating instead of tearing the strand.
Common questions
Will it really hold a cat?
The mesh will not open under claws and does not give under weight. That is exactly what it is woven for.
Is it the same as a security screen?
No. This stops claws and weight. A security screen is stainless steel and is rated against a blade and force.
Can you add a pet flap?
Yes, and it is best decided before manufacture: cutting into a finished panel weakens the load-bearing area.
Does it block much light?
Slightly more than standard mesh, because the fibre is thicker. If the room is already dark, say so at the survey.
Can I upgrade my existing screen?
If the frame is straight we re-stretch it with reinforced mesh. The frame stays yours.

Proof, not promises

Our building maintenance was taking too long, so I contacted them directly. They asked for photos on WhatsApp, sent a quotation and arranged a date. Two installers arrived exactly on time, used shoe covers and finished three windows and a balcony door before lunch. They even adjusted a loose window handle without charging extra.

My cat has always been a nightmare for scratching nets — she destroyed the last ones I had. They recommended a heavy-duty scratch-resistant mesh and it is brilliant. She has tried her hardest to claw through it and hasn't managed once. Much stronger than the regular stuff, but still clear enough.

I have really big windows, so I thought screens would be a hassle. They came, measured up and made custom frames that fit exactly. No gaps anywhere. It has been months and nothing has moved or sagged.

My apartment is right next to a garden, so the bugs have always been relentless. They fitted fibre mesh on everything and it has been a game changer — it keeps out even the smallest midges that used to drive me crazy. Less sand gets in on windy days too.

I have a lot of plants at home, so I was worried the screens would block too much light. They recommended a very thin, almost invisible mesh. Plenty of light still comes through, and there are no more small insects around my plants.

After waking up with mosquito bites several times, I decided to install screens. They fitted magnetic screens on two bedroom windows — quick and clean. The magnets close properly and keep insects out, and the mesh quality is much better than the cheap ones I had before.
