Magnetic Mosquito Screens in Dubai
A magnetic screen is held by magnetic tape around the opening and comes off with a pull of the hand. Nothing is drilled and no marks are left on the frame. It is the answer for rented homes and for windows where the building rules forbid fixings.

Who it suits
Suits you if
A rented flat where holes in the frame are not allowed. Towers with a management company that bans any interference with the facade glazing, and there are plenty of those in Dubai. A balcony door you go through with your hands full: the mesh parts at a shoulder and closes behind you on its own. One more case is seasonal accommodation, where the screen is needed for a few months and is easier to take down and store.
Not for you if
Do not fit it on an opening that sits in a permanent draught. The magnet holds the mesh, but a strong airflow pulls it away and the panel starts slapping. It does not suit wide openings either: the wider the sheet, the greater the sail effect and the weaker the magnet works at the edges. And it is not an option for a ground floor from a security point of view: it comes off from outside exactly as easily as from inside.
How it works
Tape with a matching strip is glued around the opening and a magnetic strip is sewn into the edge of the mesh. The panel is pressed against the outline and holds along its whole length rather than at separate points. That is why there are no gaps at the edges, which is where midges normally get in.
On doorways the mesh is split down the middle. You walk through it, the halves part and close again as the magnets along the vertical seam pull them together. That is the tray-in-hands scenario people usually buy magnetic screens for.
The whole panel comes off in a second, rolls up and goes in a cupboard. The flip side is the same: wind removes it just as easily, and so can anyone outside.
The tape is glued to a degreased surface. On a dusty Dubai frame that matters more than it sounds: skip the preparation and the tape lets go in the first hot month.

What it costs
A magnetic screen is the cheapest thing we make: there is no frame, no guides and no mechanism. The starting point is 200 AED per window, and a door version costs more because of the sheet size and the split down the middle. We measure on site. People often buy this as a seasonal solution, and it is fair to say it is designed for a season rather than for ten years.
Nothing gets drilled and no marks are left on the frame — which is why this is the usual choice in a rented flat.
Common questions
Will the tape leave marks?
On a smooth profile it comes off cleanly if you warm it with a hairdryer and pull at an angle. On matt paint and on timber a mark can remain, so test an unseen spot before fitting.
Will a cat destroy it?
Most likely yes. For animals take pet-proof: reinforced mesh in a rigid frame.
Does it hold in wind?
In moderate wind, yes. On the upper floors of a tower, where the draught is constant, the edges will pull away and pleated or sliding is the better answer.
How long does it last?
The mesh and the tape last longer with careful handling, but this is the simplest construction we make and its life reflects that.
Can the mesh be washed?
Yes, take it off and wash it in soapy water. Do not crease the magnetic strip in the edge and do not dry it in direct sun.
