A door is not a big window. It gets used dozens of times a day, people walk through it with their hands full, and whatever you fit has to close behind them without being asked. That single requirement rules out most of what works on a window.

What Dubai changes
The threshold is the detail that decides how a door screen is judged here. Villas and towers increasingly have sliding doors with the bottom rail recessed flush, precisely so nothing interrupts the floor between inside and terrace. A screen that puts the threshold back defeats that, so the systems that work are the ones with a flat bottom guide a few millimetres high, or none at all.
The second local factor is the wind. On a terrace or an upper-floor balcony the airflow is constant, and a light panel starts slapping in its frame. Anything wide and unsecured at the edge will eventually pull out of its guide.
The third is traffic combined with sand. A door track collects grit from shoes as well as from the air, and unlike a window track it gets walked on. Vacuuming a door rail is a monthly job here, not an annual one.

Common ordering mistakes
Skipping the closer. Without it the door gets propped open in the first week and the screen becomes decoration. This is the single most common regret we hear.
Fitting domestic hardware to a door used like a commercial one. A mechanism rated for a few cycles a day dies within a season on a restaurant kitchen door or a busy family entrance.
Forgetting how much width the screen takes. A sliding panel parks to one side and stays there, and on a narrow doorway you feel that every time you carry something through.
Using standard mesh where a dog or a child leans on it. The mesh tears at the edge, and the repair costs more than the reinforced fabric would have.

Common questions
Do I really need a closer?
On a door in daily use, yes. Without it the door is left open and the screen stops doing anything at all.
Will there be a threshold?
There does not have to be. Flat bottom guides are a few millimetres high, and on a flush-floor door that is the whole point.
How much of the doorway does a sliding screen take?
The panel parks to one side. On a narrow door it is noticeable, and the surveyor works out the figure on site.
What about a bi-fold?
Pleated or motorised. A bi-fold opens the whole span, so covering it in sections leaves posts in the way.
Will it hold a dog?
Standard mesh will not. Reinforced mesh is the answer, and it is not an upsell: it is the difference between one screen and three.
