An arched window, a round porthole, a trapezoid under a roof slope: for openings like these the screen is built to the outline rather than squared off to fit. We take the shape on site with a template, bend the profile to the radius and assemble a frame that follows the opening without gaps at the edges.

02NOT EVERY COMPLICATION IS REAL
A window with corners rounded by a couple of centimetres is closed by an ordinary framed screen, and there is no reason to pay for a bent profile.
03TWO SCREENS INSTEAD OF ONE
Where an opening has both a straight and a shaped part, two are usually made: the straight one opens, the shaped one stays put. The opening keeps working and the price does not climb.

Who it suits
Suits you if
Take it when the opening is not rectangular and a rectangular screen leaves gaps. In Dubai the classic cases are arched villa windows and semicircular fanlights above an entrance door: the mosquito goes in through exactly the crescent left at the top. Round stairwell windows and trapezoids on upper floors belong here too.
Not for you if
You do not need it when the shape only looks complicated. A window with corners rounded by a couple of centimetres is closed by an ordinary framed screen, and paying for a bent profile achieves nothing. The second case is a complex shape that also has to open often. Curved mesh on a moving system is temperamental, and if the opening is in daily use it is more honest to split it into a straight opening section and a fixed shaped one.
How it works
The work starts with a template. The surveyor holds a sheet against the opening, traces the outline and takes radii at several points: an arch cannot be built from three numbers, because real openings are rarely true geometry.
The profile is bent on a machine to the radius taken. Straight runs join curved ones through corner inserts, and the joint is dressed so the mesh does not snag. The mesh is cut with an allowance and set into the groove with a cord all the way round.
Apart from the cutting and the bending, the construction is the same as a fixed frame: a rigid panel mounted into the opening on brackets. The limits are therefore the same too. A shaped screen is normally fixed; you lift it out to wash it and put it back.
Where an opening has both a straight part and an arched one, we usually make two screens. The straight one covers the sash and opens; the arched one covers the fanlight and stays put. The opening keeps working and the price does not climb.

What it costs
A shaped screen costs more than a rectangle of the same area, because a template, bending and hand cutting are added. The starting point is the same, from 200 AED per window, but the total depends on the radius and on how many curved sections are in the outline. A round window and an arch with a single radius are priced differently even when the area matches. The survey matters more here than anywhere else: an outline cannot be taken from a photograph, and we do not quote before we have been there.
An arch or a circle cannot be taken with a tape: it needs a template held against the opening and traced.
Common questions
Can I take the shape myself?
Only if you have a drawing from the window manufacturer. A tape measure on a shaped opening almost always leaves an error that shows up as a gap in the most visible place.
Can an arched screen open?
Technically yes, but we rarely recommend it. Curved mesh on a moving system wears faster. We usually make the arch fixed and let the straight part of the opening do the opening.
Can the profile be coloured?
Yes, to the RAL palette. It shows more on arched windows: a contrasting frame emphasises the curve, so most people match the window colour.
How long does it take to make?
Longer than a rectangle: a template and bending are involved. The date is given at the survey, once the outline is in front of us.
Do you do round windows?
Yes. The circle is taken with the same template, the profile is bent into a ring and the joint is placed at the bottom where it is not seen.
