Mosquito Nets and Screens in Abu Dhabi
In Abu Dhabi the survey visit is free and the drive from Dubai does not affect the price. We agree the slot in advance: in the capital it is easier to gather several addresses into one day. The mechanism is chosen at the opening, because a Corniche tower and a Khalifa City villa open in completely different ways. The screen is made in a day and carries a two-year warranty.
01WATER SETS THE MOSQUITO BACKGROUND IN THE CAPITAL
Abu Dhabi sits on islands: channels and mangroves run between the districts, and mangroves live their own life all year.
02A WATER VIEW MEANS SANDFLIES IN THE EVENING
They are smaller than mosquitoes and pass through a standard aperture. By the water that is solved with mesh, not with the mechanism.
03THE ISLANDS AND THE SUBURBS LIVE DIFFERENTLY
On the high-rise islands wind and salt air attack fixings and hardware. In the garden suburbs it is the doors that give first.
04WHAT TO ALLOW FOR IN A VISIT
- In towers: contractor registration, a pass, a service-lift booking
- At villas access is usually open once you have told security
- Abu Dhabi is further than Dubai — the visit is set for a specific day
- We group several addresses in the emirate into one trip
What is built here
The thing that sets the capital's insect background is water. Abu Dhabi sits on islands, channels and mangroves run between the districts, and mangroves live their own life all year round. A flat with a water view almost always means that in the evening small insects come to the light, and a coarse aperture will not hold them. Hence the frequent choice of a dense fabric over the cheapest one. After that the differences follow the type of housing. The centre of the island is built up with towers along the Corniche and in Al Khalidiyah, with many rented apartments in earlier generations of aluminium glazing: narrow sliding sashes, a different profile in every building, and a screen made strictly to what the survey finds. Al Reem Island and Al Maryah are new high-rise with continuous glazing and an exit to a loggia. Saadiyat, Yas and Al Raha Beach live to a different rhythm: low rise, townhouses, apartments with a terrace by the water, wide sliding doors. Khalifa City, MBZ City and the suburban communities are villas with an internal courtyard, a kitchen door to the yard and windows that stay open through most of the winter. The Western Region is different again: Madinat Zayed, Ruwais and Liwa stand in the desert, where sand and heat come before insects and the fabric is chosen against dust. Age of glazing is its own line item. In the older quarters of the capital, windows have survived more than one refurbishment, the frame is sometimes trimmed or painted over, and then the fixing is chosen on site rather than from a catalogue. One emirate, four different problems, and one screen will not solve them all.
What we have done here
We never kept records by emirate, so naming a single address in Abu Dhabi as our portfolio would not be honest. The experience exists, it is company-wide, and it contains no split between the capital and Dubai. Invented testimonials along the lines of 'we fitted your tower last week' will not appear here either. What is real: the survey visit across the capital is free, the surveyor takes the dimensions and the profile on site, and before that nobody names an exact sum. The preliminary figure comes from the calculator, which works from 320 AED per square metre and serves as a guide rather than an invoice. After the survey the price is fixed and does not move. The finished item carries a two-year warranty.
Getting to you
We come from Dubai, so visits to Abu Dhabi are planned ahead and we try to place neighbouring addresses on the same day. Saadiyat, Yas and the gated parts of Khalifa City need a pass from the resident: warn security that a surveyor is expected, or the car will be turned away at the gate. Corniche towers have their own rules on working hours and the service lift; check them with the concierge in advance so the fitting does not slip to another day. Parking in the centre of the island is paid and full in the evening, which is worth bearing in mind when choosing a slot. The Western Region and Liwa need the date agreed separately; we do not travel there spontaneously.
What people fit here
Common questions
You come from Dubai. Is the survey really free?
It really is. We do not put travel on the bill, and the survey in Abu Dhabi is free exactly as it is in Dubai. One request: agree the date in advance. We cannot promise a spontaneous run to the capital, but a specific day is straightforward.
The flat is rented. Do I need the owner's permission?
If the fixing does not touch the facade and needs no drilling outside, your decision is usually enough. Many buildings still ask for building management to be notified of any works, and some landlords want to know beforehand. Ask yours — it is one short exchange of messages.
The windows face the mangroves and small insects arrive in the evening. What should I take?
Small flies pass through a standard aperture, so by the water people take a dense fabric with a fine weave. It is slightly darker and passes a little less air, but it holds what it was bought to hold. The surveyor brings samples and the difference is obvious against the light.
How long after the survey does the screen take?
Manufacture takes one day. Delivery and fitting are free and happen the day after the survey. If there are several addresses or the item is a non-standard shape, the surveyor names the lead time on site rather than promising you more than we can do.
Do you work in Ruwais and Liwa?
We do, by separate agreement on the date. The Western Region is far and there are no spontaneous visits. We take the request, agree a day and come out to survey; from there the process is the usual one: manufacture, delivery, fitting.
