Mosquito Nets for Windows in Dubai
Four systems fit a window and they are not interchangeable. Which one is right depends on two things: how the sash opens and how often you open it. Answer those and most of the options disappear on their own.
01THE SASH FIRST, EVERYTHING ELSE AFTER
The choice is dictated by how the window opens: sliding takes a sliding screen, a casement takes a framed one on clips, fixed glazing is closed by a frame and that is that.
02DUST DECIDES THE MESH BEFORE PRICE DOES
The standard 1.2 × 1.2 mm aperture stops mosquitoes while fine sand passes straight through. Windows onto a road, a site or open ground mean Anti-Sand.
03MEASURE THE OPENING, NOT THE GLASS
The screen sits in the opening or in the sash rebate. A couple of centimetres out becomes a gap a mosquito walks through like an open vent.

What Dubai changes
Two things change the answer here that would not matter in a temperate climate.
The first is sand. Mesh clogs faster than it wears out, and the finer the weave the sooner it stops passing air. Next to a construction site or on the desert edge the finest mesh becomes a solid panel within months. That reverses the usual instinct: the right choice is often the one that is easiest to take off and wash, not the one with the smallest aperture.
The second is sun. Glass fibre dries out under ultraviolet and starts to crumble at the edge, and on a south or west elevation that happens years earlier than on a shaded one. A roller has a quiet advantage here: for half the year the mesh sits inside the cassette instead of bleaching in the opening.
There is a third point specific to towers. Above a certain height the draught between buildings is constant, and light fixings simply do not hold. On upper floors the way the screen is attached matters more than which system it is.

Common ordering mistakes
Ordering by your own measurements. A centimetre of error becomes a gap, and the gap lets in exactly what you bought the screen for.
Buying the finest mesh as a precaution. In a dusty area that decision shows up two months later as a room that no longer ventilates.
Screening every window in the flat. Most households actually open three windows out of eight, and screening only those cuts the order substantially.
Forgetting that the screen has to be cleaned. A panel nobody can reach or lift down never gets washed, and within a year it is grey.
The sash dictates the choice, not taste: a window is closed by the system that matches how it opens.
Common questions
What is the cheapest option for a window?
A fixed frame, from 200 AED. On a window you rarely open it is also the most reliable, because there is no mechanism in it.
Do I have to screen every window?
No. Screen the ones you actually open. That often halves the order.
Which mesh should I choose?
Standard stops mosquitoes. Midges need a finer weave, sand needs a different fabric again. Tell the surveyor which one troubles you.
Can I fit it myself?
On hooks, often yes. The measuring is the part we will not skip, because that is where the gaps come from.
Will it spoil the view?
