Security Screens in Dubai
A security screen is stainless steel mesh in a reinforced frame. It does everything an ordinary insect screen does and will not cut with a knife or push in under a shoulder. It goes on ground floors, on villa windows facing the garden, and on commercial sites where a window stays open and the room stays empty.
01THREE DIFFERENCES FROM AN ORDINARY SCREEN
Stainless wire mesh instead of fibreglass, a reinforced frame and anchored fixings. The mesh cannot be cut with a knife.
02FITTED WHERE PEOPLE REACH FROM THE GROUND
A villa ground floor, a garden window, a ground-level townhouse window, commercial premises. Anything reachable without a ladder.
03POINTLESS ON THE TWENTIETH FLOOR
You pay for strength nobody needs up there, and the view is still worse than through a fine mesh.
04WHAT TO ALLOW FOR
- Stainless steel minds neither sun nor salt — a plus by the sea
- Anchored fixings leave marks in the reveal
- The view is denser than through ordinary mesh
- It protects the opening; it is not a certified security grille
Who it suits
Suits you if
A villa ground floor, a window onto the garden, a window at street level in a townhouse. Anything a person can reach from the ground without a ladder. Commercial sites with a storage area where the ventilation window faces the loading yard. One more common reason: the family leaves for the summer and wants to keep the windows on vent without leaving the house open.
Not for you if
Pointless on the twentieth floor of a tower: you are paying for strength nobody needs there, and the view is worse than with a thin mesh anyway. It does not suit you if maximum light matters, because steel wire is thicker than glass fibre and the mesh reads more clearly in the opening. And it is not a substitute for a grille under fire regulations: if the rules for your building require an escape route through the window, that construction is agreed separately.
How it works
Three things differ from an ordinary screen: the mesh, the frame and the fixing.
The mesh is woven from stainless wire rather than glass fibre. It cannot be cut with a utility knife and cannot be pushed through by hand: the wire takes the load and returns to shape. That is what separates a security screen from reinforced pet-proof mesh, which stops claws but not a tool.
The frame is thicker and stiffer, and the mesh is held not by a cord in a groove but by a clamping strip around the entire perimeter. Pulling a corner will not free the mesh from the frame.
The fixing is anchored, into the wall or through the window frame. An ordinary insect screen sits on clips and lifts off in a second, and that is its whole point. Here the opposite is true: it goes on once, and it cannot be taken off from outside without tools.
In Dubai this has a side benefit. Steel mesh is not troubled by ultraviolet and does not dry out: glass fibre on a south elevation loses elasticity within a few years, stainless does not.

What it costs
A security screen costs noticeably more than an ordinary one: different mesh, different frame, different fitting with anchors. It is priced from the area of the opening and the method of fixing, and we quote only after a survey. The reason is not caution: on this product the price depends on what the screen is fixed into. An anchor into concrete and an anchor into a light partition are different jobs and different constructions, and a photograph does not tell you which wall you have.
It does everything an ordinary insect screen does and on top of that cannot be cut with a knife: that part is no longer about insects.
Common questions
Is this the same as a grille?
No. A grille is visible and reads as a grille; the screen looks like an ordinary insect screen. And it does not replace a grille where regulations require one.
How is it different from pet-proof?
Pet-proof stops claws and an animal's weight but cuts with a knife. A security screen is steel and is rated against a tool, not a cat.
Can it be taken off to wash?
From inside yes, from outside no. That is the point of anchor fixing.
How much light does it take?
More than a thin mesh: steel wire is thicker. If the room is already dark, look at UltraView and accept that there will be no security element.
Does it rust near the sea?
Stainless behaves better than glass fibre by the water, but salt settles on any surface. The mesh is washed the same way as the windows, and that is the whole maintenance.

Proof, not promises

Our building maintenance was taking too long, so I contacted them directly. They asked for photos on WhatsApp, sent a quotation and arranged a date. Two installers arrived exactly on time, used shoe covers and finished three windows and a balcony door before lunch. They even adjusted a loose window handle without charging extra.

My cat has always been a nightmare for scratching nets — she destroyed the last ones I had. They recommended a heavy-duty scratch-resistant mesh and it is brilliant. She has tried her hardest to claw through it and hasn't managed once. Much stronger than the regular stuff, but still clear enough.

I have really big windows, so I thought screens would be a hassle. They came, measured up and made custom frames that fit exactly. No gaps anywhere. It has been months and nothing has moved or sagged.

My apartment is right next to a garden, so the bugs have always been relentless. They fitted fibre mesh on everything and it has been a game changer — it keeps out even the smallest midges that used to drive me crazy. Less sand gets in on windy days too.

I have a lot of plants at home, so I was worried the screens would block too much light. They recommended a very thin, almost invisible mesh. Plenty of light still comes through, and there are no more small insects around my plants.

After waking up with mosquito bites several times, I decided to install screens. They fitted magnetic screens on two bedroom windows — quick and clean. The magnets close properly and keep insects out, and the mesh quality is much better than the cheap ones I had before.
