Who it suits
Suits you if
This is the system for a door people actually use. A kitchen door to the garden, an entrance, a single patio door: you push it with an elbow, it swings, and the closer brings it back. The hardware is built for hundreds of cycles rather than a few a day, which is why hinged doors outlive sliding screens on high-traffic openings. It is also the easiest type for guests and staff to use correctly, because there is nothing to learn.
Not for you if
It needs clear space to swing into. On a narrow balcony or a tight side passage the leaf has nowhere to go, and you end up squeezing past it. It also does not cover a wide opening: past the width of an ordinary door the leaf becomes heavy, the hinges take a beating and the door starts to drop. For anything panoramic, look at pleated. And without a closer the door gets propped open within a week, which makes the screen pointless.
How it works
The leaf is a rigid frame with mesh set into a groove, hung on hinges fixed to the jamb. A magnetic catch or a latch holds it shut. The closer is a separate piece of hardware and it is the part that decides whether the door actually works in daily life.
Which way it opens is decided on site, not in the order form. It has to clear the existing door, the handle, the step and anything standing outside. Getting that wrong is the most common reason a hinged screen has to be refitted, and it is entirely avoidable at the survey.
Against a sliding screen the difference is what happens to the opening. A sliding panel always occupies part of it. A hinged door leaves it completely clear when open, but demands room to swing.
Against pleated the difference is width and traffic. Pleated covers far wider openings; a hinged door handles heavier daily use with simpler hardware.
The wearing parts are the hinges and the closer. Both are replaceable and neither is expensive. In Dubai the closer usually needs adjusting once after the first hot months, because the oil inside it behaves differently at 45 degrees than at 25.

What it costs
Doors start at 250 AED in our price list, and the calculator works from area at 320 AED per square metre plus 5% VAT. The closer is the item worth budgeting for deliberately: it is the difference between a screen that gets used and one that is propped open by the second week. We quote after the survey because the swing direction, the threshold and what the hinges screw into all change the job.

Will it work on a wide patio door?
