Mosquito Net Mesh Types Compared
The mesh decides what gets through; the system decides how the screen opens. They are chosen independently, and most disappointing screens in Dubai are the result of getting the mesh wrong rather than the mechanism.
01THE APERTURE DECIDES WHAT GETS INTO THE ROOM
The standard 1.2 × 1.2 mm stops mosquitoes and flies. Sandflies pass straight through it, and stopping them needs a smaller opening.
02LIGHT TRANSMISSION DECIDES HOW DARK THE ROOM GETS
The denser the weave, the less light and air. On a panoramic window that shows immediately, and there the choice goes the other way.
03THE THREE NUMBERS ARGUE WITH EACH OTHER
A finer aperture means less light and faster clogging. A stronger strand means a more visible mesh. There is no perfect mesh, only the one that suits your window.

What this mesh is
Every mesh in our range is a trade-off between three things: what it stops, how much air it lets through and how much of the view survives.
Standard is the baseline at 1.2 mm with 80% light transmission. It holds mosquitoes and larger insects and it goes into any system. In an ordinary flat away from water it is enough, and it is the cheapest.
Finer weaves stop midges, which pass straight through the standard aperture. That is the single most common complaint we hear from people living near lagoons, canals and mangroves: the screen works and the insects still arrive.
Anti-sand fabric is a different thing again. It is not simply finer; it is woven to shed dust rather than to trap it, which matters where the problem is the desert rather than the wildlife.
UltraView goes the other way, giving up some protection for the clearest view in the range.
Bird-proof is closer to a different product than a mesh grade: it is rated for weight and impact rather than for insects.
When people choose it
Start from what actually bothers you, not from what sounds safest.
Mosquitoes only: standard, and stop there.
Small midges getting through a working screen: a finer weave, fitted into the same frame.
Dust and sand coming in with the air: anti-sand fabric, and accept that no mesh is a filter.
Allergies: the pollen filter, which is a different reason to buy and a different audience.
View matters more than anything: UltraView.
What not to do is buy the finest mesh as insurance. The finer the weave, the sooner it clogs, and next to a construction site the most protective fabric becomes a solid panel within months.
The right mesh is not the densest one, but the one that closes your problem and still leaves the room ventilated.
Common questions
Can I change the mesh without changing the screen?
Yes, if the frame is straight. We take the old fabric out of the groove and re-stretch the frame with the new one.
The screen is fitted and midges still get in. Why?
The aperture is too large. Standard mesh stops mosquitoes, not midges. A finer weave solves it.
Is the finest mesh the best protection?
It is the fastest to clog. In a dusty area that means a room that no longer ventilates.
Which mesh lasts longest in the sun?
Metal outlasts glass fibre under ultraviolet. Near the sea, stainless outlasts both.
Does the mesh affect the price much?
Less than the choice of mechanism does. Economising on mesh is rarely worth it.
