The problem with a French door is the direction of swing. The leaves come inwards, so the screen has to sit outside or move sideways in a way that keeps out of their path. A framed screen fitted from inside simply stops the door opening.
The first solution is pleated on the outside. The fabric folds into a side cassette, the door opens inwards freely and the screen closes the opening from the street. It works with one leaf or two.
The second is a hinged pair outside, mirroring the door. It looks logical and opens the way people expect, but it needs space outside, which means a terrace or a balcony rather than a flush facade.
The third thing people forget is the threshold. French doors often have none at all, with the floor level inside and out, and that is the main aesthetic reason for fitting them. The screen must not put the threshold back, so the systems used here have a flat bottom guide or none.
Fourth, handles. French door leaves often carry projecting handles, and an external screen has to clear them. The surveyor checks that separately.
