How do you clean sand out of mosquito mesh?
Take the sand out dry, then wash. Vacuum the mesh on low power with a soft brush, clear the tracks before you move the screen, and only then wipe the grey film with lukewarm water and a drop of mild soap. Water on a sand-clogged mesh turns the dust into mud inside the weave.

Wait for clear air
Fine dust keeps settling for a while after the wind drops. Clean once it has, or you clean twice.
Tracks first
Vacuum the bottom track, rails and cassette slots before you open or slide anything. Sand under a moving part grinds it.
Mesh dry, both sides
Soft brush, low power, light strokes along the weave. Pressing the nozzle in pushes grit deeper and stretches the mesh.
Wipe the grey film
Lukewarm water with a drop of mild dish soap on a sponge, then a second sponge with clean water.
Dry before closing
Leave pleated and roll-up mesh open in the shade until dry. Folded damp, it traps the next lot of dust.
Why sand clogs mosquito mesh
Mosquito mesh has cells small enough to stop insects, and the finest desert dust lodges in them. After a strong shamal the screen looks grey and less breeze gets through.
Near the sea, humid mornings make that dust stick, so a dry film turns into a crust. A vacuum first and a damp sponge second shift it; either one alone leaves half behind.

Pleated
- Open it fully and vacuum the pleats flat
- Clear the low track and the cassette slot
- Wipe both magnets so the bar clicks shut
Sliding
- Lift the panel out and wash it flat
- Vacuum the rail before it goes back
- Brush grit out of the edge seals
Roll-up
- Clean the mesh pulled down, never rolled
- Vacuum the side guides top to bottom
- Let the bar up slowly once it is dry
Fixed frame
- Unclip it and rinse it in the shower
- Lukewarm water and a soft sponge, no brush
- Dry it upright in the shade, then refit

Sand is abrasive. The wrong tool does more harm than the storm.
Pressure washer or a hose on full
A hard jet stretches the mesh and can pull it out of the groove in the frame.
Solvents, bleach and strong cleaners
They attack the coating of the mesh and the cords of a pleated screen. Mild dish soap is enough.
Forcing a stuck screen
Pulling harder over sand bends the profile and snaps cords. Clean the track, then slide.
Cleaning job or repair job?

Anti-dust mesh holds more sand
Anti-dust mesh has a denser weave than standard, so more fine dust stops at the window instead of landing on your floor. The flip side: more of it sits on the mesh.
Plan to vacuum it more often. On a villa facing open desert or a building site it earns its price, AED 800 per m² against AED 400 for standard mesh.
