Our building maintenance was taking too long, so I contacted them directly. They asked for photos on WhatsApp, sent a quotation and arranged a date. Two installers arrived exactly on time, used shoe covers and finished three windows and a balcony door before lunch. They even adjusted a loose window handle without charging extra.

My cat has always been a nightmare for scratching nets — she destroyed the last ones I had. They recommended a heavy-duty scratch-resistant mesh and it is brilliant. She has tried her hardest to claw through it and hasn't managed once. Much stronger than the regular stuff, but still clear enough.

After waking up with mosquito bites several times, I decided to install screens. They fitted magnetic screens on two bedroom windows — quick and clean. The magnets close properly and keep insects out, and the mesh quality is much better than the cheap ones I had before.

What to allow for in Meydan
Meydan is built spaciously: the racecourse, the fields and the residential quarters around them. There is a lot of open ground between the houses, and that changes two things compared with dense city building. The wind moves freely here, and sand off the open ground goes into the openings constantly.
A practical conclusion for choosing follows from that. On doors and terraces the rigidity of the fixing matters more than the type of mechanism: a light construction on an exposed plot works loose within a season. And it is more sensible to take fabric that is easy to remove and rinse rather than the densest, because washing will be regular.
The second local factor is the sun. The quarters are new, there is little mature planting and almost no shade. Fabric on the south and west sides ages noticeably faster than in districts with grown gardens, and after a few seasons you can see it at the edge.
The third concerns access. The gated quarters of Meydan have a post at the entrance, and security has to be told about the fitter's visit in advance. The approach to the houses is clear, there are no goods lifts and no schedules, so the fitting goes faster than in towers.
What breaks most often: fixings on doors and terraces worked loose by wind, guides packed with fine sand, and fabric that has lost its transparency on the sunny side. All three are usually closed out in one visit, because the fitter carries standard hardware with him.
