What is built here
The bulk of the housing stock is one- and two-storey houses and villas with grounds. The windows are ordinary casements and the openings rectangular. For that geometry a framed screen settles the question most cheaply and for the longest: it goes in and is forgotten.
The second typical job is the door to the yard or the veranda. It is walked through often, and here you need a hinged screen with a closer, or pleated if the opening is wide.
A feature of its own is the lagoon and the mangroves. More insects hold near water, and small flies are a noticeable problem here. A standard 1.2 mm aperture lets them through, and if you live by the water the conversation goes straight to a finer weave.
Fourth: the plots are open and the wind off the water is unobstructed. Light constructions on yard doors hold up worse than in enclosed city building, and that is worth allowing for when choosing.

By the lagoon the first problem turns out not to be a breakage but the aperture size: standard fabric does not hold small flies, and it gets changed. On the mechanical side the leaders are yard doors in daily use. Wind off open water works light constructions loose. Hardware suffers moderately: there is humidity, but less than on the east coast.
