Mosquito Nets and Screens in Ras Al Khaimah
Ras Al Khaimah stretches between the sea and the mountains, and that changes what a screen has to do. By the water the enemies are salt and humidity; along the mountain edge, sand and strong wind. One fabric for the whole emirate does not work.
01THREE DIFFERENT CONDITIONS IN ONE EMIRATE
A coast of villas and resorts, the mountain edge, and open terraces. There is no single answer that fits the whole emirate.
02WIDE TERRACES TAKE ZIP-TRACK
On an exposed shore an ordinary screen is blown out of its channel. A locking edge is the only thing that holds the fabric there.
03WHAT GIVES FIRST, AND WHERE
On the coast, hardware under salt and damp. By the mountain edge, mesh packed with fine sand. On open terraces, the fixings.
04WHAT FOLLOWS FROM THAT
- The specification is chosen for the specific place, not for the emirate
- Panoramic doors and wide spans take sliding and pleated screens
- By the water stainless hardware makes sense
- The visit is set for a specific day and addresses are grouped
What is built here
The coastal part of the emirate is built with villas and resort complexes. There you get panoramic terrace doors, exits to the water and wide spans. Those take sliding and pleated, and wide terraces take zip-track: an ordinary screen on an exposed shore gets blown out of its guide.
Inland from the coast ordinary residential building begins, with rectangular windows where framed screens are enough.
The districts along the mountain edge are their own story. Fine sand comes off the hills and clogs the fabric faster than in the city. A fine aperture works against itself here: the denser the weave, the sooner it stops passing air. The practical conclusion for such places is to wash the fabric more often and more easily, rather than to choose the densest one.
Wind loading on exposed sites is higher than in dense city building. That affects the construction rather than the fabric: you need a deep channel and a rigid profile, or the first strong gust pushes the screen out.
What we have done here
We do not yet have data on specific jobs in Ras Al Khaimah in the volume that would let us write about them honestly. We come out to survey free of charge and look on site at what is actually in the opening.
What can be said without invention: on the coast and along the mountain edge the conditions for a screen are harsher than in the city, and here the choice of construction matters more than the choice of fabric.
Getting to you
The drive to Ras Al Khaimah takes longer than a run across Dubai, so the survey is planned for a day rather than for the next few hours. We try to gather several addresses into one trip, and if the neighbours need screens too, say so: the visit then gets agreed faster.
Resort and gated communities need a pass through building management. Arranging it takes time, and it is better started at the same time as booking the survey.
What breaks here most often
The picture depends on where you are. On the coast the hardware goes first, to salt and humidity. Along the mountain edge the leader is fabric clogged with fine sand. On exposed terraces the commonest problem is fixings working loose and fabric being pushed out of the channel. There is no single answer for the emirate, and that is exactly what we look at during the survey.
Common questions
Do you get as far as Ras Al Khaimah?
Yes. The survey is free, but it is planned for a specific day.
Which fabric should I take by the sea?
Not the densest. By the water and near the mountains the fabric clogs faster, and easy washing matters more than a fine aperture.
What can be done about wind on a terrace?
Take a system with an edge lock — zip-track. An ordinary screen on an exposed shore gets blown out.
Is a pass needed for the complex?
In gated communities, yes, through building management. Start arranging it when you book.
Is the warranty the same here?
Two years, as everywhere.
