What is built here
Mirdif's housing stock is villas and low-rise buildings, many of them built some time ago. The windows are casement, rectangular, of familiar geometry. A framed screen suits them perfectly: it is the cheapest of the lot, goes in once and serves for years.
The district's second distinction is the maturity of the building. The yards are planted, the trees are grown, and in the evening insects gather in the greenery. There is meanwhile almost no construction nearby, so the dust here is ordinary city dust rather than building dust.
Third: in the older stock the frames come from different years and profiles. Standard Z-fixings do not suit them all, and the surveyor chooses the method on site. That is the commonest reason a screen in Mirdif cannot be priced over the phone.
Fourth, a local one: the district is close to the airport, and many people keep the windows shut because of the noise and run the air conditioning. Then screens are needed not on every opening but on the ones actually opened. That saves noticeable money, and we say so plainly.
