Mosquito Nets in Dubai Marina
In the Marina a screen nearly always goes on the balcony door. Panoramic sashes run on their own guide, and room for a screen has to be created rather than 'slotted into what is there'. The survey across Marina towers is free and we build the item in a day. Two things have to be reckoned with: wind at height and the building's rules on the look of the facade.

Marina rooms often have no opening windows at all: all the air comes through the sliding balcony door of two or three leaves.

What is built here
The Marina is roughly three kilometres of canal lined with residential towers, with a promenade of cafés running between them. The layouts repeat: a studio or a one- to two-bedroom flat, floor-to-ceiling panoramic glazing, a long narrow balcony and a sliding portal of two or three sashes. Often there are no opening windows in the rooms at all, and every bit of air movement goes through that portal. Hence the first conclusion: it is the portal that has to be closed, and a sliding screen on its own guide, or pleated, suits better than any hinged option.
The second thing the Marina dictates is wind. Between the towers it accelerates, and on upper floors the balcony door bangs in the draught. A magnetic curtain and a light frame do not last long at that height. What is needed here is a rigid profile, fixing at two points and fabric tensioned on a cord, or the fabric starts humming and leaving its channel.
The third is the tower's rules. Building management makes sure the facade looks uniform from outside: no projecting constructions, no fixings into the cladding and no frames of the wrong colour. We set the item inside the opening and paint the frame to match the existing profile by RAL, so the screen is invisible from the street.
The fourth: the water is right there. Small flies rise off the canal towards sunset, and the lower floors with a water view get them first. A 1.2 mm aperture lets that size through; 0.8 mm holds it. On the upper floors the question is usually a different one: pigeons on the parapet and the dust carried off the promenade.

We will not show you a list of addresses in Marina towers, because there is not one. No fitters' reports for this district are recorded against us, and inventing 'we fitted 40 screens in Marina Gate' for the sake of a good line on a website is a poor trade: trust costs more.
So the conversation is built not on past jobs but on your opening. The surveyor comes free of charge, brings samples up, looks at how the portal runs, whether there is room for a second guide, what the seal and the threshold are doing. From that you get a costing and an understanding of which mechanism is possible in your layout at all.
If the tower requires paperwork from the contractor for access, say so before the visit: the fitter will bring the documents along and a second trip will not be needed.
Getting to you
Access to Marina residential towers goes through the underground car park, which has a height restriction, so long profile is carried in through the loading bay or the stairs. We give the concierge the fitter's name in advance so you are not troubled by calls from reception. In many towers the goods lift is booked by time slot: name a window that suits and we will fit around it. The noisy part of the work stays within daytime hours and we drill with a vacuum. We reach the balcony only through the flat; nobody climbs the facade from outside.
What breaks here most often
What wears out here most often is the rollers on sliding screens: sand off the promenade settles into the bottom rail, compacts and works like emery. Second commonest is the fixings on upper-floor balcony doors, worked loose by the constant wind between towers. Fabric by the sea fades faster on the sunny side than on the shaded one, and you can see it at the edge. Repairs in the Marina usually fit into a single visit: we carry rollers and catches with us.

Common questions
Does the screen need approval from the building management?
In most Marina towers it is enough that the construction does not change the look of the facade and is not fixed into the cladding. Our items go inside the opening and the frame is matched to the profile colour. If your building requires an application from the contractor, tell us in advance and the fitter will bring the documents.
We are on the 32nd floor and there are no mosquitoes. Do we even need a screen?
Mosquitoes are rare above the twentieth floor, but dust reaches it beautifully and pigeons settle on the parapet. Small flies also rise on the currents along the facade. If you keep the balcony door open, a screen here works more as a filter than as protection from mosquitoes.
The wind is strong. Won't the screen be blown out of its guide?
It will not, if the construction is matched to the floor. For the upper levels we take a rigid profile, fixing at two points and fabric tensioned on a cord. Magnetic curtains and lightweight frames are not something we recommend in the Marina: they bang and work loose within a season.
The flat is rented. Can it be fitted without drilling?
Often yes. On balcony portals we use clamp and surface fixings that hold on the existing profile. No holes are left in the walls, and at move-out the item comes off in a few minutes. The surveyor confirms drill-free fixing on site; we do not promise it blind.
Can you match the frame to our glazing?
We can. The profile is painted to RAL, most often dark grey or black for panoramic systems. The surveyor holds samples against your own sash, so you choose the shade with your eyes rather than from a catalogue on a screen.
